Samue (or Samu-e or Samu-gi) are the traditional work clothes (jacket and pants) worn by Zen Buddhist monks or nuns in Japan. They also make for comfortable and stylish clothing to support your meditation in the meditation hall or at home.

Samue are unisex garments.

Our Samue jacket is made of 9 oz hemp and organic cotton canvas ( 60% -40% ). It's a plain weave and there is a slightly visible grain to it. Available in black, blue and grey .

This thick and durable fabric is really soft and not at all itchy . Please ask for a free fabric sample if you want to feel the fabric. The fabric is prewashed so your samue jacket can be completely washed and dried in ordinary machines.

The jacket cut is a traditional one with no shoulder seam, and with a long seam on the back. Sleeves have a rectangular shape (drop shoulder).
Our Samue jacket has a hidden pocket on the front right side (6x9 inches) and 2 sets of ties to keep it closed. The ties also make the fit flexible for different body types. The collar is double layered from around the neck to half-way down the chest so it stays straight and firm. For your confort, there are slits on each side.


Please read the measurement chart carefully before ordering your jacket. In order to be sure you are comfortable in the jacket when sitting, we suggest you use an existing garment and measurements from items you have in your home.

If you do not fit one of our standard sizes, please ask for a custom made jacket. An extra charge of $15 will be charged if you do so.

Usually I always have one jacket per size ( standard size as describe in the chart ) ready for shipment within 3 days. If you choose this option, please refer to the measurement chart to make sure of your size.

See chart in picture. Fabric is preshrunk so no need to add any extra length and width.
